LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY: DON'T USE YOUR TRIPOD!

Ok, admittedly, the title is a bit provocative. But seriously: If I can avoid using my tripod in landscape photography, I will do so. And that's my tip for you as well. Why is that? Haven't we all been told to use our tripods in order to get stable and sharp imagery?

Maybe. And there are undoubtedly situations in which a tripod is important. But my suspicion is, that many of us start the shooting process by adjusting their tripods first. Please don't forget: It's not the tripod that comes with great perspectives. It's you! And if you commit yourself to early to a certain viewpoint by mounting your tripod first, you will probably miss a lot of interesting perspectives and ideas!

Therefore I got used to leave my tripod in the bag, as long as exposure times allow it. And with better cameras, image stabilization, noise reduction and more, the tolerance level shifted in our favor.
